Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement prevails.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Carlisle Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. You will need to present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional requirements may be specified in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Carlisle office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and a security deposit are generally payable upon collecting your vehicle. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be filled out and signed by both parties. It is expected that the vehicle be returned in the same state as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and billed appropriately. The vehicle should also be returned with the same level of fuel as when picked up; refueling charges will apply if the fuel level is lower. If you anticipate returning the vehicle late, please reach out to us as soon as possible, as late returns may incur extra fees. You are accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. For comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts, please refer to your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to minimize your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless additional coverage is obtained. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited vehicle uses:
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Use the vehicle only for its intended purposes and adhere to passenger and weight limits. Driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
Liability Limits
To the fullest extent permitted by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Carlisle will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim will not exceed the total rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. All disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
